Who was Wilhelm Wundt?
Wilhelm Wundt separated psychology as a science from philosophy and biology and was the first person to call himself a psychologist. In 1879 at the University of Leipzig he founded the first laboratory for psychological research, which is why he is called the father of experimental psychology.
He also started the first academic journal of psychological research, Philosophische Studien. In a 1991 survey of American historians of psychology he ranked first for all-time eminence, ahead of William James and Sigmund Freud.
