Who was György Lukács?
György Lukács was a Hungarian Marxist philosopher and literary critic and one of the founders of Western Marxism, which broke with Soviet orthodoxy. He developed the theory of reification and Marx's idea of class consciousness, and turned Lenin's practice into a philosophy of the vanguard party.
As a critic he shaped thinking about realism and the novel. In 1919 he was minister of culture in the short-lived Hungarian Soviet Republic. He is hard to place, since he seemed both to support Stalinism and to call for a return to Marxism before Stalin.
