Who was Gilles Deleuze?
Gilles Deleuze wrote on ontology, social critique, film and painting from the early 1950s until his death. Much of his work reinterprets earlier philosophers, among them the Stoics, Spinoza, Leibniz, Hume, Kant, Nietzsche and Bergson.
Difference and Repetition (1968) is considered his main work. His best-known books are the two volumes of Capitalism and Schizophrenia, Anti-Oedipus (1972) and A Thousand Plateaus (1980), written with Félix Guattari. He called himself a pure metaphysician, but his concepts have been taken up in art, literary theory, musicology and sociology.
