Who was Gilbert Ryle?
Gilbert Ryle is best known for his critique of Cartesian dualism, for which he coined the phrase "the ghost in the machine". Some of his views on the mind have been called logical behaviourism.
In The Concept of Mind (1949) he expected the book to be labelled behaviourist, but suggested, having read Brentano, Husserl and Heidegger, that it could just as well be called a sustained essay in phenomenology.
