Who was Roman Ingarden?
Roman Ingarden was a Polish philosopher who worked in aesthetics, ontology and phenomenology. Before the Second World War he wrote mainly in German, but after the German invasion he switched to Polish out of solidarity with his country.
As a result his major work in ontology went largely unnoticed abroad, though his ideas reached a wider world through his student Karol Wojtyła, the future pope.
