Who was Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi?
Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi did much to popularise the concept of nihilism, which he treated as the inevitable outcome of Enlightenment thought and of the systems of Spinoza, Kant, Fichte and Schelling. Against speculative reason he set faith and revelation.
He was a writer and a fixture of society, briefly a friend of Goethe, and the younger brother of the poet Johann Georg Jacobi.
